Former President and CEO of the American Lung Association (NY) to Lead Foundation's Worldwide Efforts
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (BJALCF), a global leader in efforts to eradicate lung cancer, today announced that it has named Scott Santarella as its new President and CEO.
Santarella, former President and CEO of the American Lung Association in New York and former COO of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC) will step into the previous role of Bonnie J. Addario, who is now Chairman of the Board.
Mr. Santarella brings more than 20 years of experience as a senior executive with a proven track record in innovative marketing, successful management of fundraising, and raising awareness for underfunded diseases and causes. His knowledge of science and research combined with the highest regard to ethics and constituent service has driven his successful track record of raising more than $250 million in his previous leadership roles.
Prior to his senior posts at the MMRF and MMRC, Mr. Santarella was highly successful in several key roles at the Educational Foundation of America, Earthplace, Knights of Columbus and the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. He graduated Cum Laude at the University of Massachusetts with a B.A. in Journalism and completed the Executive Leadership Program at Harvard Business School.
"Our foundation is enormously fortunate to have Scott take the helm," says Bonnie J. Addario, BJALCF founder and lung cancer survivor. "Not only does he bring the depth and breadth of financial and management expertise that will be instrumental in our expansion, he's a fundraising champion. He managed to lift an annual non-profit's combined revenue to 300 percent, while maintaining annual administrative expenses at seven percent. I am proud of what we've built so far, and I am honored to have Scott join our movement at this point in time. I want to see tangible change in the survival rate of lung cancer in my lifetime, and the addition of his leadership experience renews my confidence that this dream will become a reality."
"It's a real honor for me," says Scott, "to have been selected as the President and CEO of BJALCF. I admire and respect Bonnie a great deal and have been a huge fan of the foundation's innovative work and business focus. I am truly looking forward to working with the foundation's team to take the organization to the next level."
"Funding for the Number One Cancer Killer is more than forty years past due," says Sheila Von Driska, BJALCF Executive Director. "With an alarming incidence of lung cancer in never smokers on the rise, it's time to take this bully by the horn and take it down. Scott's experience is a fresh new kick-start for the second round in this worldwide battle. We look forward to letting lung cancer know it's 'game over.'"
